Lavender

I remember when I was a kid and smelled lavender for the first time. I was anticipating it because I'd read and heard how fragrant and lovely it was. Of course, I was expecting to smell something delightful like it had been described to me in my favorite stories. Instead, the first thought that came across my mind was how awful it actually smelled. It was a big let down and I couldn't understand how anyone could say that that smelled good.

Shortly after, I was frying eggs in bacon fat for the first time by myself (my Mom was watching over me of course) and many eggs later (about 5 or so) I was cooking my last one. When I plopped the egg in fat splashed all over my right hand. Needless to say, my entire hand was burned. We got out the ice water and dropped in some lavender. It felt good but oddly enough more than the sensation of pain from the burn or chill of the ice, I remember how strongly the lavender smelled and how much I disliked it.
Almost a decade later, I could smell lavender and truly enjoy its scent. I'm glad that I can now enjoy lavender in its entirety.
